Be Mine, Valentines

Cousin Sally sent me this valentine. She says everyone should have a valentine, and thanks to her, I do. She is a very thoughtful person.
On valentine's day I brought your mama a beautiful red balloon shaped like a heart, ninos, and some books for each of you. You are too young and I am too old to make much of this "Hallmark card day" as Mame calls it, but we each know who we love.
Later that morning Weezie and I went to a children's theater play. We had a long conversation about why we like to go to these things, and Weezie asked me about the plays I attended as a child. I had to think about that. Reality is I did not go to any. We talked about how perhaps this is why I enjoy going with her. Weezie is subtle but it is clear she feels these outings are for me, that they make me happy. She is right. You are a wise child, Weezie, with a lot of insight. Sometimes it is hard for me to remember which of us is the grown-up.

The play was a goofy production, but Weezie seemed to enjoy it. She sat in her own seat (a first) and clapped politely at every opportunity. We were front row center and the view was unobstructed. At intermission we checked out the ladies room and then strolled the lobby. When I suggested we return to our seats she said, "Oh let's not go back just yet."
On the way home, we decided our favorite character was Swoozie the dog. He had credibility. We have tickets for a new production, Bridge to Terrabitha in March. Perhaps Little Clam will be ready to join us soon. I'm thinking he is ready for a ride on the carousel this spring. Until then, Weezie and I are a companionable twosome.

I love reading about the other parts of our large family. You have inspired me to do more writing!
