Back Yard Joy

On Mother's Day Mame took Clam and Weezie to the Farmer's Market for fresh produce and flowers. This is a favorite outing now that the Market has expanded. With more room to walk between stalls, it is no longer so  dangerous to small children. On an earlier visit, we lost Clam's best hat, Weezie (temporarily) and our composure. We also had to walk many blocks to find a restroom for Weezie (no ducking into the bushes in Dupont Circle) and it was not a great experience. Mame relies on fresh local fruits and vegetables for a large part of their diet and so I am thrilled to hear that the Sunday market is better now. Sometimes Auntie Erin goes along which makes it even more fun. This day after the Market, everyone went to Kelly and Thea and Liam's house and played in the yard (yes, a real yard complete with grass and a tire swing and family pets. The kids rode scooters and made chalk drawings on the driveway and played with the dogs, none of which they get to do at the apartment. I know it was a very special treat because Weezie has told me about the day several times already and that is unusual for her.

A yard is sanctified ground for some children. It is like having your own park (never mind that Mom has to do the maintenance; that is not important at age three or even five.) The delight on Clam's face would keep me mowing and watering and cleaning up dog poo for quite a while. Other people's happiness is some people's energy. Especially if the other people are your grandchildren. I am thrilled that you had a good day, ninos.
P. S. Mom had a good day too I hope.
She sent me these pictures and told me about your day, grandchildren, and I have captured it here.
