This is your Uncle Judd, Weezie. The one who sent you the singing rabbit (remember “Let’s go to the Hop. Hey Baby!”) Your mother gave me her peeled onion eyeball stare when I replaced the batteries for the third time, but you loved it so. And it is not my fault that the bunny got lost in your basement and is still trying to find its way back to the playroom.
These are the Coral Sand Dunes, beautiful, molded, sensual. But it seems the winds should have blown the sand away long ago.
Your Uncle Judd is standing on the edge of the dunes, somewhere in Southern Utah. He wanted me to see them because I said I had driven past the turn-off many times and always wanted to stop. He took the time to show them to me because he is that kind of person.
We also stopped at Lake Powell to check out the water levels. Look at the rocks to the left in this picture. The white area marks a water level that has dropped from 25-30 feet in the past 8+ years of drought. Water once filled the center of this picture. I tell you this so years from now, when you and Baby Clam are travelling you can compare past and present. I hope you will someday see Arizona and visit a few of the places that I write about. I wonder if either of you will ever come to love the desert as I do. More likely you will find places of your own to love.*". . . is to go where I've never been." Diane Arbus, US Photographer
