A Page from The Gardener's Year

Weezie, you may not remember this house and garden in a few years as your family is living here for just a short time. It is a sweet little house with a lovely yard and garden, and you are happy here.

The lone sunflower atop this stalky plant is quite wonderful to see. Like many plants in the garden, it is a volunteer.
Your dad brought you a green balloon to celebrate the opening of the sunflower. Green is your favorite color. This is a good year for green.

Here are Art and Julie, two friends who have "planted" your family in this house and garden that they own. We are all here to celebrate the opening of the sunflower with you. Your mom made a raspberry clafloutie from berries growing in the garden. You helped her pick them. The clafloutie, a custardy pie, was delicious (we shared a piece). Your mom is a wonderful cook and an amazing hostess. She turns the simplest things into artwork and delight. Meanwhile, friendships are flourishing here amidst your green.
