Say Cheese Please . . . and Don't Look Down!
This is a picture of your mom, grandchildren. Mame is standing on a long, narrow promontory in a place known as Devil's Needles somewhere in the Southwest. She is leaning casually against her dad, your Grandpa Steve, whom she clearly trusts to keep her safe.
I am standing far away on the broad, safe edge of the canyon taking this picture and saying prayers to the universe that the ancient stone beneath her feet will not suddenly crumble and cast my only child into the gaping crevice below. The universe granted my prayers, of course and Mame grew up to be a risk taker like her dad. I love that, but my heart still goes a little squinchy when I look at this picture and remember the moment. We are so different, your mom and I, but she is my treasure, my heart's delight (as are you, ninos, as are you all.)
