We Love Our Backhoes

Clam and Weezie love to play with the backhoe Uncle Judd gave Clam for Christmas. I'll post some pictures of that soon. Meanwhile, we can review what we know about backhoes in general. In this picture of Uncle Judd's backhoe we are looking at the clamshell digger, the part that gives the backhoe its name. It is designed to dig holes, pits and trenches. Notice how Uncle Judd has stabilized the machine by putting the struts or feet down to provide balance and support.

Here we are looking at the front loader part of the backhoe. It is good for scraping, scooping and moving dirt.

Here the clamshell is digging a deep pit.

Here the front loader is getting ready to scoop up some dirt.

Front loader has a load of dirt, clamshell digger is tucked away and off duty.

Here comes Uncle Judd with a full load in the front loader.

The front loader is very full.

Scooping up another load.

Driving the backhoe, moving the dirt where Uncle Judd needs it to be.

That is a very full load of dirt.

Uncle Judd and Stan the Landscape Man examine the load of dirt.

Uncle Judd's backhoe is a great piece of equipment. It is capable of doing many helpful things. But a any piece of equipment is only as good as the person who operates it.

Uncle Judd is a very good equipment operator. He understands how things work, and how things can go wrong when the operator does not know what to do. Uncle Judd has been using equipment for many years. This summer when you come to visit, he will show you a few things about his backhoe, and maybe the Gradall with the crane. He is a good teacher also. You can learn as much as you care to from Uncle Judd if you listen and pay attention.
